Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

 

Author Guidelines

Prandium: the Journal of Historical Studies at University of Toronto Mississauga welcomes scholarly submissions from current undergraduate students on subjects relevant to Historical Studies and its related disciplines. Submissions may take the form of, but not limited to, the following:

  • Research paper
  • Critical review of books or film
  • Visual art
  • Argumentative essay
  • Short Story
  • Poetry

Submitters are encouraged to consult the guidelines outlined below as well as the current issue of Prandium before submitting their work. Submissions (including questions) can be sent to historical.studies@utoronto.ca by February 18, 2013 (please indicate “Prandium Submission” in the subject line of your email).

All submitted works must include:
  • Maximum 15 pages (4000 words)
  • Page numbers.
  • A title.
  • Complete and accurate citations for all referenced sources. Citations must be in the form of footnotes formatted in the Chicago style. (Click here for more information on the Chicago style)
  • Accurate references for the source of any included images not created by the author.
  • An indication in the submission email what course (if any) for which the work was originally produced.

To be considered for selection works should:

  • Be no more than 15 pages or 4000 words in length.
  • Demonstrate excellence in thought, composition, language and research.
  • Be accessible to a broad university audience.
  • Be free of errors in punctuation and grammar.
  • Address subjects relevant to the disciplines of the Historical Studies department.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
