Challenging Anti-Muslim Racism Through a Critical Race Curriculum in Quebec Secondary Schools

Abstract


Media and political discourses have positioned Muslims as a threatening 'Other' to Quebec society through various nationalist debates aimed at preserving traditional Quebecois culture and values. This article examines the potentials and limitations for Quebec educational curricula to challenge these discourses. This article argued that teachers need to exercise agency and professional judgment to challenging anti-Muslim racism in Quebec secondary schools and suggested approaches for doing so by employing principles from critical race curriculum.
